Aquamarine is a birthstone for March.
Aquamarine's name comes from the Latin for seawater and it was said to calm waves and keep sailors safe at sea. Thought to enhance the happiness of marriages and endow the wearer with foresight and courage.
The pale blue stone with clear clarity can be found in very large stones, the largest known mined stone weighing 27 kilos. The resulting cut obelisk stands 35 cm tall, 10 cm wide at the base, weighing 10,363 carats.
HRH Elizabeth II was presented with an Aquamarine for her coronation by the People & President of Brazil (native to Brazil), which was later turned into a Tiara by Garrards the Jeweller.
